Woburn Abbey
Find out more about our celebration year!
2010 is the 200th anniversary of the completion of landscape gardener Humphry Repton’s plans at Woburn Abbey and we are celebrating with a season of special events!
Highlights include: an historical re-enactment weekend, the Woburn Abbey Garden Show, opening of 6 acres of the Duke of Bedford’s private gardens for the first time, admission to the 19th century hornbeam maze and gardening masterclass sessions.
The Birthplace of Afternoon Tea
This English Tradition is said to have originated in the 1830s by Duchess Anna Maria, wife of the 7th Duke, who entertained her friends in the Blue Drawing Room at Woburn Abbey. She felt it was a very long time between luncheon and dinner and afternoon tea helped bridge the gap.
Pre-book your Duchess Anna Maria Afternoon tea at the Duchess’ Tea Room or at the Inn at Woburn in the heart of the Georgian village.
