The Gardens
The 6th Duke was interested in gardening. One of the first commissions he gave when he inherited Woburn was to ask Humphry Repton to produce designs for improving the Pleasure Ground and the park. Repton's plans are bound in one of his famous 'Red Books', dated 1804, which is preserved in the Library.
Today the 22 acres of informal gardens are open to all visitors who may enjoy the inspiration of Humphry Repton, who contributed to its design. Follow the Garden Trail and find out more about the history of the gardens, the wonderful trees and plants here and our plans to recreate part of Repton's original vision for the Pleasure Grounds in the future.
There are free quiz booklets for all children so they can have fun too looking for answers and discovering lots of fun facts.
The gardens are a work in progress and we hope that you will come back again and watch us grow.
