Woburn Abbey Antiques Centre-Events Programme 2010
Soviet Art at the Woburn Art Festival “Art Beat” from 3rd April to 18th April 2010 will be exhibited, in conjunction with this event, in the North Court, Woburn Abbey. Together with the latest work from the young artist Edward Noott and sculptures in the Abbey grounds, will add to what is already a ‘must see’ for lovers of art in the village of Woburn itself.
Art Deco and 20th Century Fair, from 29th May to 31st May 2010. This will be a small quality fair featuring lighting, furniture and art. To be held in the North Court, Woburn Abbey.

Entertaining and informative talks for 2010
April 8th 2010 – “Antiques as an Alternative Investment”
Presented by Howard Northwood
Howard Northwood has spent over 50 years as a collector and dealer of fine quality antiques. In the 1980’s he was a consultant to Sotheby’s in Monaco for English furniture.
He also worked with the British Rail Pension Fund, the Parry Collection and advised many private collectors.
Howard’s experience covers a wide and interesting range of subjects and you are sure to add to your own knowledge of antiques. His first talk centres on buying for investment, viewing the market place and drawing on his many years in the antiques business.
May 19th 2010 – “The Historic Origins of the Game of Golf”
Presented by Robert Fuller
Robert Fuller has been a collector and dealer of sporting memorabilia for 25 years with an expert knowledge of antiques, quality silver and sporting history, especially golf and tennis.
Robert will have returned from a lecture tour in the United States and for those of you interested in the game of golf, this talk will prove a very interesting couple of hours.
Robert will talk about the Dutch origins of the game and show you some interesting artefacts from those early days.
June 16th 2010 – “Fabrics Furnishings and Interiors”
Presented by Rod Cannon
Rod Cannon of Asquith Interiors has been helping clients achieve their ideal interiors for over 30 years now. Based locally in Toddington Bedfordshire, Rod has a wealth of practical and creative experience. Rod will chat about all aspects of the design process including fabrics, wall coverings and how to bring all the different aspects of interior design together to give your rooms a truly personal and tasteful atmosphere.
September 22nd 2010 – “How to Spot a Fake”
Presented by John Bly
Meet John for the second of his interesting and informal talks and discover how to spot a fake and date an item. The most frequently asked question is “How do you know how old it is?”, so John Bly will illustrate what the experts look for and how they recognise the genuine article from the fake.
John Bly has made numerous TV and radio broadcasts for over 30 years and is best known for his programme “Heirloom” and the ever popular BBC favourite “The Antiques Roadshow”.
If time allows John will include some behind the scenes TV anecdotes gathered over his many years broadcasting.
October 13th 2010 – “Fun Antiques Quiz”
Presented by Miles Fernyhough
Come along and enjoy an interesting and fun few hours.
Miles Ferneyhough has been an antique dealer for many years. His earliest memories are as a 3 year old in his father’s antique and interior design shop in Birmingham. He has a broad expertise in all aspects of Antiques and has had shops London, Henley-in-Arden and Stratford upon Avon.
Miles will bring along a variety of interesting objects for you to try and identify and discuss. A chance to win a fine bottle of wine is sure to add to the fun atmosphere. Always an interesting and enjoyable event, book your place now.
November 19th 2010 - “Spectacular Furniture”
Presented by Christopher Payne
Christopher Payne is well known for his regular appearances since the 1980’s on the BBC’s “Antiques Roadshow”, imparting his expertise on furniture and sculpture. He also appeared on the BBC’s “Antique Inspectors” and “The Great Antiques Hunt”. Christopher was with Sotheby’s for 25 years and on leaving them has been acting as a curator for private collectors.
His talk on “Spectacular Furniture” is a fascinating look at some of the more spectacular items he has been involved with over his 40+ year international career. There will be time to ask questions and chat informally.

Presented by Nick Lury
Nick Lury is well known as a director of Cambridge Fine Art which was founded in 1971. His collection of high quality paintings sell across the UK and abroad. Many renowned British artists are represented with some continental work also featured amongst his collection.
Nick has built an enviable reputation for his knowledge on the subject and those of you interested especially in the era of Victorian works are sure to find this talk interesting and informative.
