Fundraising
Go Bonkers for Bongo in 2010

In 2010, Woburn Safari Park will be concentrating its fundraising on the Eastern Mountain Bongo and in doing so we invite you to join us at our special ‘Bonkers for Bongo’ Evening Safari on Friday 6th August.

Go Bonkers for Bongo

The fun and fundraising begins at 3pm and runs until 9pm when Woburn Safari Park closes. Last entry to the drive-through safari where you can see the magnificent bongos for yourself is at 7.30pm.

Evening activities include:

  • Evening drive-through safari
  • Mammoth Play Ark (soft play)
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Bongo Art Competition for Children
  • Games and Activities
  • Face Painting
  • Theatrical play and much, much more!

The Bongo is one of the most endangered mammals in Africa today. It is believed that there are as few as 65-100 Eastern Bongo left in the wild; most of which are found living in the Aberdare forest region in Kenya.

Research carried out by a Woburn Safari Park scientist shows that without our help, there is a 93% chance that the Bongo will be extinct in the wild within the next 50 years as deforestation and poaching poses a huge threat to them.

Woburn Safari Park is actively working together with the Bongo Surveillance Programme and Kenya Wildlife Service to develop a conservation strategy and provide crucial funding to not only help support the rangers protecting this species from poachers, but to help monitor the numbers left in the wild and to educate local schools in Kenya of the benefits these creatures present to their habitat.

2009 - EAZA Carnivore Campaign

Woburn Safari Park won 1st prize, raising over €14,635. Although another zoo raised slightly more money than us, we received the prize as we had the most innovative ideas for fundraising and the judges were impressed with the enthusiasm show by the staff at Woburn.

2008 - EAZA Amphibian Ark - Year of the Frog Campaign

Woburn gained a Platinum Certificate for raising over €12,000

2007 - EAZA Madagascar Campaign
