Fundraising

2011

Woburn has been highly successful raising money for various EAZA campaigns, in 2011 our aim is to raise more than £8,000 for the Great Apes campaign.

2011 – EAZA Great Apes Campaign

This year supported by EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquariums) Woburn Safari Park is participating in a very important campaign to help make a significant and lasting contribution to the continued survival of apes and their habitats.

Fundraising money will be put towards helping:

  • To increase habitat protection and reduce habitat loss
  • To reduce hunting and trades of apes, both alive and dead
  • To change the consumer behaviour to reduce pressure on apes and their habitat

The overall campaign aims to raise over 1 million Euros (together will other EAZA members) to establish a lasting fund providing ongoing support to ape conservation.

The current threats to these magnificent animals include loss of habitat, hunting and trade and poor health and disease. There are small things that everyone can do to help reduce these threats, even here in the UK, including:

- Recycling your mobile phone, this reduces the demand for the mining of minerals that are used in their manufacture

- Using FSC registered paper and wood products, which come from sustainably sourced trees.

- Using products that don't contain palm nut oil. This can be difficult to measure as many brands would list this ingredient as 'mixed vegetable oil' in order to avoid the negative connotation.

Woburn Safari Park will be holding a special fundraising event on the 5th August to raise money for this cause, tickets will be available online soon.

Please see the EAZA website - www.apecampaign.org for further information.

2010 – Go Bonkers for Bongo Campaign

In 2010, Woburn Safari Park concentrated its fundraising on the Eastern Mountain Bongo, a critically endangered Antelope and one of the rarest mammals kept in captivity. With less than 100 remaining in the wild, Woburn Safari Park raised funds for it's breeding program, with a special 'Bonkers for Bongo' Evening Safari in the summer.

"We are so grateful for your staff's support at Woburn. With this outstanding dedication to conservation, the Woburn adoption of "The Mountain Bongo Project" has made a significant contribution towards the protection of the Mountain Bongo in the wild." Juliette Shears, BSP Representative.

2009 - EAZA Carnivore Campaign

Woburn Safari Park won 1st prize, raising over €14,635. Although another zoo raised slightly more money than us, we received the prize as we had the most innovative ideas for fundraising and the judges were impressed with the enthusiasm show by the staff at Woburn.

2008 - EAZA Amphibian Ark - Year of the Frog Campaign

Woburn gained a Platinum Certificate for raising over €12,000

2007 - EAZA Madagascar Campaign

Woburn Safari Park won 1st prize for its fundraising efforts for its Madagascar campaign by raising over €27,000.
